Replacing old windows, doors, and skylights will help you save on energy costs. In addition, as part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, you could have money returned to your pocket through a federal tax credit.
If you installed or replaced any windows, doors, or skylights recently, you could be eligible for an energy-efficient home improvement tax credit of up to $200 for windows and $500 for doors and skylights. The credit can be claimed once, for all tax years since 2006. It's for Energy Star-certified materials only, not installation costs, and can only apply to your primary residence.
When you file your 2022 taxes, you'll need to fill out a Form 5695 to claim the residential energy tax credit, which you can find on the IRS website. Keep your manufacturer certification on-hand, in case needed.
If you want to use the credit in 2023, give Retex a call for an estimate on your windows, doors, and/or skylights. Reach us at 804-258-6300 to schedule your complimentary estimate today.
