Can Clogged Gutters Cause A Roof Leak?
Short answer: Yes, with or without a baseball (like this homeowner’s). Here’s why.
You may notice debris piling on top of your gutters or water overflowing them. When gutters are clogged, rainwater overflows and can seep under shingles, causing wood rot in the roof deck and fascia. Plus, overflowing water can damage the soffit and fascia, allowing moisture into your attic and creating leaks.
To prevent clogged gutters, we recommend cleaning or hiring a professional to clean your gutters at least twice a year. Installing gutter guards may also reduce the amount of debris that builds up in your gutters, though they will still require occasional maintenance to perform well.
