Asbestos roofs were commonly used in construction before the 1990s, and they can still be found on many older homes and buildings today as they can last 30 to 50 years. They typically have a corrugated or flat profile, with a series of ridges and valleys running the length of the roof, and they’re usually gray or brown in color. These roofs have a smooth texture and a slight sheen to them, and they’re made from a cement-like material that contains asbestos fibers.
The roof pictured here is on a home in the Bexley neighborhood of North Chesterfield, VA. Over the next couple of weeks, we will work in tandem with an asbestos removal company to ensure that the asbestos shingles are removed safely and properly while the home remains protected from any passing storms before we install a new roof.
It's important to remember that asbestos is a hazardous material, causing serious health problems if its dust is inhaled. If you suspect that you have an asbestos roof and need or want to replace it, give us a call at 804-258-6300 for a no-cost roof assessment today.
