Whether a preferred or independent contractor, make sure the company is licensed and insured, and ask if they’ve worked with insurance companies on claims before. Ensure they take photos during their inspection, so you can submit them as needed to your provider. And ask for an itemized list of the repairs to be included with the estimate.
And, contrary to popular belief, you do not need to get multiple bids. In fact, doing so could hurt you: If you submit multiple bids to your insurance company, more often than not they’re going to choose the lowest bid rather than the best quality.
