Three Visible Warning Signs You Need A New Roof

Katelyn Lewis • June 28, 2023

You think you’re tired? Imagine having to protect a home no matter the weather, all year-round. No holidays, no vacations, for 20 years. It’s EXHAUSTING!!

roofs

(Bad) Jokes aside, even roofs get burned out and need to be replaced from time to time to keep that protection layer impenetrable. The following visible signs may point to you needing a new roof:

1. You notice cracked, misplaced, or wavy shingles.
These indicators show a break in your asphalt shingle protection layer, creating access points for water and moisture to seep into your home, The nails used to fasten the shingles to your roof may be popping up, causing the curvy look, or Mother Nature may be wearing down the glue and granules that hold your shingles together.

2. You notice water stains or spots on the ceiling in multiple rooms.
While finding a single water spot may indicate that you have a roof leak, finding multiple stains – even tiny ones! – means you may have a bigger situation on your hands. Other watery red flags include dripping sounds; a sagging ceiling; mold growing in your ceilings or walls; high humidity levels indoors; and a musty smell indoors.

3. Your roof is turning green – and not in an environmentally-friendly way. While most moss, mold, or mildews that grow on your roof are more superficial than damaging, allowing them to continue to grow on your roof neglects the underlying cause of their growth: the presence of moisture in or on your roof. While this warning sign doesn’t necessarily mean you need a new roof, you should hire a professional to clean the roof of its growing greenery to prevent your shingles from deteriorating.

If your roof qualifies for at least one of these conditions, it’s worth having it checked out by a reputable roofing company.
