How Do I Know If My Roofer Did A Good Job?

Katelyn Lewis • April 12, 2023

Even if you’re not a roofing expert, there are several ways to check if your roofer did a good job in replacing your roof.

Here are our top 5 tips:

1. Straight Lines & Evenness: Your shingles should lie flat and straight. If you notice any that don’t seem flat right after install, don’t worry – it sometimes takes up to two weeks for them to “settle.”

2. Proper Flashing: While it may be hard to see the step flashing between your siding and roof, you can check around your chimney and vents to make sure it’s sealed properly.

3. Proper Ventilation: Your roof ventilation moderates the temperatures inside your home year-round. You’ll need either passive exhaust or ridge vents or an active attic fan to help your roof and attic space breathe.

4. High-Quality Materials: Make sure you choose high-quality materials that can withstand the elements for many years to come. This point comes more into play when you’re choosing your roofing materials; make sure to check their warranties as well.

5. Proper Cleanup: Your property should be clear of debris, nails and other materials used during the installation process, returned to the same condition it was before they started. While you may find a stray nail or two, your yard should be left in tip-top shape.

Overall, the best way to ensure your roof was installed correctly is to hire a reputable, experienced, licensed and insured contractor to do the job – like Retex!
