Hurricane Season: How To Prep Your Home Before The Storm

Wind’s ripping, rain’s pouring, and sky’s darkening outside. What can you do to prepare your home for extreme weather?

While we can’t predict or prevent significant storms like tornadoes, hurricanes, and tropical storms, we can prepare ourselves and our homes to protect our families, homes, and property.

Here are our three quick tips on how to prep your home ahead of a tropical storm or hurricane blowing through:

  1. Clear your gutters and roof. Remove any branches or debris from your roof and out of your gutters to enable your roofing system to function properly during the storm.

  2. Clear weak limbs and trim trees within 10 feet of your home. You’ll limit the amount of debris that could fall on your roof, potentially preventing damage. You should also bring in any loose outdoor furniture, potted plants or lawn ornaments inside if you can.

  3. Review your homeowner’s insurance policy so you know what’s covered and what isn’t. That way, if worse comes to worse, you know what to anticipate.

If you do experience an issue, contact a trusted home exterior professional to get you through the storm. At Retex, we provide emergency tarping services to provide an immediate solution and peace of mind while preventing further damage inside your home. We then will work with your homeowner’s insurance agent to get your issues fixed promptly and correctly, bringing you peace of mind quickly.

Give us a call at 804-258-6300 if you need help during or post-storm.
